Once you reach the outlying eastern suburb of Lilydale, the road forks at the former home of Dame Nelly Melba and then pass through some of the most glorious scenery of undulating hills covered with vines, all within an easy drive (1 hour) of the city of Melbourne.
The area is renowned for wineries which are situated on picturesque terraced hillsides that offer any visitor a choice to taste the finest wines and the dozens of class restaurants attached to cellar doors. The restaurants serve fine regional foods which when combined with the local wine, portend a splendid day out.
